Textile Technology
The first S2 unit builds upon the textile knowledge and skills developed in S1. Pupils make a personalised decorative cushion by independently following the design process from the planning stages through to the product evaluation. Pupils will develop confidence in practical skills such as pinning, tacking, embroidering and using the sewing machine. They will also develop a number of other skills including numeracy when measuring and higher order thinking skills when evaluating their product.

Fit for Life
The second S2 unit builds upon the healthy eating knowledge developed in S1. Pupils will use their knowledge of nutrients and current dietary advice to understand how our dietary and health needs can change at different stages of our lives. Pupils will also be able to apply their knowledge when analysing product packaging and understanding how external influences such as advertising can impact our food choices and therefore our health. Pupils will take part in a practical lesson each week including recipes such as; lentil soup, fruity flapjacks, pizza, turkey burgers and sweet and sour chicken.

Food Through Time
The third S2 unit focusses on how food trends and technology have changed over the years and the impact that this has on the food choices we make today. We start with WW2 and work our way up to today considering what the key events in food were in each decade. Pupils will take part in a practical lesson each week including recipes such as; war time honey biscuits, Nutella mug cakes, spaghetti carbonara, burgers with bbq sauce and speedy paella.

Celebration Cakes
The last S2 unit is Celebration Cakes. In this unit pupils examine the science behind the key ingredients in a cake and how they all work together to make the recipe work. Pupils develop skills in design and creativity when developing their own range of cakes which they will package and cost. Each week pupils will make a different style of cake including recipes such as; chocolate and orange cream cake, ginger loaf and their own design cakes.
